School Counseling

The mission of school counseling at BHCS is for all students to feel comfortable and successful at school, and for families to feel a welcome part of our school community.

Our goal is to meet the emotional, psychological, and behavioral needs of our students.

The program is comprehensive, ranging from individual and family clinical counseling, to social groups, theme based groups, focused classroom interventions and staff training.

Counseling topics addressed at various developmental levels include but are not limited to:

  • personal safety

  • mindfulness

  • healthy relationships

  • online safety

  • conflict resolution

  • substance abuse prevention

  • suicide prevention.

Theme based peer group interventions have included:

  • nature journaling

  • middle school self expression

  • social skills training

  • grief support groups

  • siblings of special needs groups

Our school counselor, Megan Granger, LCPC, is trained through NAMI as a suicide prevention trainer for staff, as well as being a certified trainer through the ALICE school safety program. Mrs. Granger's clinical license and experience allow her to counsel children and families with a broad range of emotional and behavioral needs and diagnoses.

Referrals may be made by teachers, parents, and guardians, and by IEP teams. Students may also self-refer. The school counselor works with classes, small groups, individual students, and families on a need-driven basis. Contact Mrs. Granger for more information.
